Fela Durotoye’s session capped the event by delivering a very powerful message on grace. Read this as carefully as you can.
2017 in Review
“My 2017 in review”, a post I’ve dreaded writing probably because I felt like there’s really nothing much to say (sounds like ingratitude, yeah?). I’ve taken time out to count my blessings for last year and I think it’s about that time I share:
The Hollywood Reporter calls him “Multi-hyphenate“..
Did you know that he had a tough childhood? he was verbally abused and violently beaten by his father until age 19. One night, his drunken father got the vacuum cleaner extension cord and trapped him in a room and beat him until the skin was coming off his back..
For those of you who know the story, you guessed right. It’s Tyler Perry, who was born Emmitt Perry Jr. but changed his name to distance himself from his dad.
About three years ago, he did something he tagged as “liberating and freeing”. This was a letter to his younger self; the child he used to be. I didn’t understand how amazing this was until i decided to write to the little girl in my heart that had been longing to hear from me.
Recently, I have learnt that everyone processes life’s situations differently. Just because some of us have it easy does not mean everyone functions the same way. Sometimes, it’s good practice to sit back and ponder on what your reaction will be if you were to be in someone’s shoes. It makes life more peaceful at least mine has been peaceful lately.
