What is God’s Nature?

My newborn!!! I’m stoked.

Procrastinated starting for a week for reasons I’m not ready to share but here we are.

What’s Heart Check about?

Inspired by Proverbs 4:23 (KJV)

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

A wise man once told me: It’s not what goes into a man that corrupts him, but what comes out.

Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.

Matthew 15:11 KJV

In the past months, I’ve had a lot of questions about life, my existence, my walk with God, the world, and more. The questions increase everyday. While searching for answers something happened:  I had a revelation of how dirty my heart is. It was so scary. It reminded me of this scripture:

“But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”

– Isaiah 64:6 KJV

I’m on a detox/cleanse journey from the chaos I’ve fed my heart with all these years. Of course, not by my power but by the unfailing help of the Holy Spirit. Clearly, my standard of clean and God’s aren’t the same.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord . For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

-Isaiah 55:8‭-‬9 KJV

There’s a lot I’m happily unlearning.  As I check my heart, I hope yours gets checked, cleaned, and healed too.

Today’s Business:

1. What’s God’s Nature?

The simple but most misunderstood answer: Love. Here’s what Rick Warren helped me understand from his devotional:

Love is the essence of God’s nature. The only reason there is love in the universe is because of God. Ants and snails do not love, but you were made in God’s image, so you can love.

The reason you are alive is because God wants to love you. The first purpose of your life is to be loved by God! Yes, it is important to serve, obey, and trust him, but your first purpose is to love him.

“According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will”

-Ephesians 1:4‭-‬5 KJV

2. I don’t think I love God enough

Really? The problem is not that you don’t love God enough. The problem is that you don’t understand how much God loves you.

“We love him, because he first loved us.”

-1 John 4:19 KJV

We see him as this difficult authority figure who is full of commands, curses, punishments, makes life boring, and difficult to please. Prayer feels like a chore, many of us avoid it like a plague (That’s a check ✅ for tomorrow).

God wants to show you how loving and chilled if only you let Him.

This is my heart check  ✅ . I hope you’ve unlearned something today. Share with someone who needs to get their heart checked ✅
